The Drakenstein Veterinary Clinic has surgical facilities that set the standard in the Western Cape region as well as South Africa. Lead by Dr. Andrew Gray, elective and emergency surgeries can be performed 24/7, 365 days of the year. All types of surgeries can be accommodated, including orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, dentistry, dystocia and standing laparoscopy. A full range of ancillary diagnostic modalities such as radiology, ultrasonography and scintigraphy complement this world-class service.

Two fully equipped surgical suites are available 24/7 and each contains fully, adjustable, padded equine anaesthetic tables complemented by ECG machines, blood pressure monitoring devices, fluid infusion pumps, pulse-oximetery and mechanical ventilators.

Following induction of anaesthesia, horses are transported to each surgical suite by mechanical lifting device and once surgery is completed, assisted recovery by trained staff is catered for in fully padded recovery stalls. An Anderson Rescuer Equine Sling is available to support a horse during recovery from orthopaedic-related disorders.
